Installing Air Conditioners

There are many ways for air conditioner installation, depending on what your budget is. Some retailers may even do the installation for you, but some will charge a fee. If you live out of the delivery area, or just want to set it up yourself, it really isn’t that hard, if you do some planning. The first thing is to find out how much space you want to cool down, and where you are going to set it up. If you are doing some kind of central cooling system, it may be a good idea to hire a professional to come in and do it right the first time.

Many window model air conditioner installation can be done on your own. You will have to start with which window you are going to put it into. If you are installing on the ground level, wherever you pick should be cleared of any landscaping, so you have a good solid surface to work with. You should also make sure that you level out the ground, so your platform isn’t crooked. As long as you have a sturdy flat base to work from, you shouldn’t need to buy any concrete or anything like that.

Before your air conditioner installation, you should measure the unit, and see how much will be on the outside. You will also want to measure the distance from the bottom of the window to the ground. It may be a good idea to position the air conditioner in a level temporary position, to get accurate measurements. Don’t leave the unit very long sitting that way. Once you are done, you can use 2×4’s and plywood to build the structure. You want to make sure that you have enough room on the platform to easily support not only the air conditioner, but also anything else, wiring, water lines, and give enough access to change filters and do routine maintenance.

Now you don’t have to spend too much money on building materials. You can find many quality scraps at home improvement outlets, as long as they fit your needs. You will want to find 2×4’s that are straight, and with as little knots as possible, If you find any, make sure they are at the ends, and the length is longer than you need. Particle board can be used for the platform, but a good piece of plywood is easier to work with, and is more durable. You have to make sure that the piece you pick is larger than the size you need, to give plenty of trimming room.

You are going to want to not only buy enough hardware to put it all together, but you should also buy some brackets, to secure it to the outside wall. You are going to want to buy some silicone caulking, for sealing up your bracket holes. Build the unit, with the legs to the inside of the frame. It is a good idea before the final air conditioner installation, that you set everything up without securing anything. This way you can easily make adjustments. If everything is all good, then it’s just a matter of doing the final steps to make it secure.
